Tell me about... Soft Drinks

Soft drinks are sometimes also known as ‘minerals'. They can be carbonated like Bubbles, or diluted (sometimes referred to as "cordial"), and they usually come in cans or bottles.

There lots of different kinds of soft drinks. You can get diet, low calorie and no-added-sugar soft drinks. Some drinks called ‘fortified drinks' provide extra vitamins and minerals, and are especially good for sports-mad people like Bubbles!

What's in a Soft Drink?

Most soft drinks contain these ingredients:

  • Water
  • Sugar or a sweetener
  • An acid to make it taste tangy (kind of like an orange or lemon) and to preserve its quality
  • A flavouring to give the drink its taste

Different soft drinks have different amounts of these ingredients:

  • Carbon dioxide, which is the gas that is added to make the drink fizzy
  • Fruit
  • Preservative
  • Colour

If you want to know all the ingredients of a soft drink, just read the label.
